Preacher:
Passage: Genesis 17:31-38; Romans 4:13-25; Mark 8:31-38
Service Type:

The God of Abraham praise, who reigns enthroned above;

Ancient of everlasting days, and God of Love;

Jehovah, great I AM! by earth and Heav’n confessed;

We bow and bless the sacred Name forever blessed.

The God of Abraham praise, at Whose supreme command

From earth we rise—and seek the joys at His right hand;

We all on earth forsake, its wisdom, fame, and power;

And Him our only Portion make, our Shield and Tower.

Though nature’s strength decay, and earth and hell withstand,

To Canaan’s bounds we urge our way, at His command.

That heavenly land we see; with peace and plenty blessed

A land of sacred liberty, our endless rest.

There dwells the Lord our King, the Lord our righteousness,

Triumphant o’er the world and sin, the Prince of peace;

On Sion’s sacred height His kingdom still maintains,

And glorious with His saints in light forever reigns.

The whole triumphant host give thanks to God on high;

“Hail, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,” they ever cry.

Hail, Abraham’s God, and ours ! we join the heavenly lays,

And celebrate with all our power, His endless praise.

Thomas Olivers (1770), Tune: Leoni

How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
