Sunday Service Advent 2 (6-12-20)

Sunday Service Advent 2 (6-12-20)
05/12/2020
Preacher:
Passage: Isaiah 40: 1-11, Mark 1: 1-8
Service Type:

HOW LOVELY ON THE MOUNTAINS are the feet of Him

Who brings good news, good news.

Proclaiming peace, announcing news of happiness,

Our God reigns, our God reigns.

Our God reigns, our God reigns,

Our God reigns, our God reigns.

You watchmen lift your voices joyfully as one,

Shout for your King, your King.

See eye to eye the Lord restoring Zion:

Our God reigns, Our God reigns!

Waste places of Jerusalem break forth with joy,

We are redeemed, redeemed.

The Lord has saved and comforted His people:

Our God reigns, Our God reigns!

Ends of the earth, see the salvation of your God,

Jesus is Lord, is Lord.

Before the nations He has bared His holy arm:

Our God reigns, Our God reigns!

Leonard E. Smith Jnr.

O COME, O COME, IMMANUEL,

And ransom captive Israel,

That mourns in lonely exile here

Until the Son of God appear.

Rejoice, rejoice! Immanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free

Thine own from Satan’s tyranny;

From depths of hell Thy people save

And give them victory o’er the grave.

O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer

Our spirits by Thine advent here;

Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,

And death’s dark shadows put to flight.

O come, Thou Key of David, come

And open wide our heavenly home;

Make safe the way that leads on high,

And close the path to misery.

O come, O come, Thou Lord of might

Who to Thy tribes on Sinai’s height

In ancient times didst give the law

In cloud, and majesty, and awe.

John Mason Neale

Prayers

Arthur … Dear Lord we thank you for this wonderful time of Advent and for the story of John the Baptist preparing the way for Jesus.  Lord help us to keep this in our hearts and minds as we prepare for a Christmas like never before.  We thank you for all the amazing technology, the smartphones, internet and facetime which help us keep in touch with our loved ones and conscious of the world at large.

Albert …  Covid 19 is a very serious virus and we are sad to see that people cannot visit their families.  One day when the Covid 19 goes away then we can be happy and see then again.  We pray that you will give us strength if we are not able to see our loved ones this Christmas.

Philippa … Lord fill us with your love and compassion to reach out to our communities We pray for our churches, congregation, clergy and greater Christian family.  We remember those less fortunate than ourselves both here in the UK and overseas, those affected by war, famine and persecution as well as the challenges of the current pandemic. We lift them up to you.  So lord we pray for wisdom and patience, kindness and love throughout this festive season.  Amen

And now we will say the prayer that you taught us:

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever.   Amen.
