Sunday service (Pentecost)

Sunday service (Pentecost)
27/05/2020
Preacher:
Passage: Acts 2.1-21 (Pentecost); John 20.19-23 (Jesus appears to the disciples)
Service Type:

Lord, the light of your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth you now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me

Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father's glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light

Lord, I come to your awesome presence
From the shadows into your radiance
By the blood I may enter your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me

As we gaze on your kingly brightness
So our faces display your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell your story
Shine on me, shine on me

Graham Kendrick © 1987 Make Way Music

Come down, O love divine, seek thou this soul of mine,
and visit it with thine own ardour glowing;
O Comforter, draw near, within my heart appear,
and kindle it, Thy holy flame bestowing.

O let it freely burn, ‘til earthly passions turn
to dust and ashes in its heat consuming;
And let thy glorious light shine ever on my sight,
and clothe me round, the while my path illuming.

Let holy charity mine outward vesture be,
and lowliness become mine inner clothing;
True lowliness of heart, which takes the humbler part,
and o’er its own shortcomings weeps with loathing.

And so the yearning strong, with which the soul will long,
shall far outpass the power of human telling;
For none can guess its grace, till they become the place
where-in the Holy Spirit finds a dwelling.

Intercessions 31 May 2020 (Pentecost) – Hilary Forbes

We join together in our intercessions and pray for the Holy Spirit to come and renew our lives, on this the Church’s birthday. Close your eyes and imagine all your church family and friends praying in their homes. We may be physically apart but we are together in our prayers. I like to think of a little trail of vapour from each house forming into a huge cloud of prayer. This thought may help you too.

Each prayer is only a sentence or two and then I shall say

Lord hear us.

And then we will all say

Father send us your Spirit

So let’s start:

Lord Hear Us. Father Send us your Spirit

Your Holy Spirit gave the Apostles the gift of communicating your message. Grant that we too may proclaim your message according to the Gifts that the Holy Spirit gives us.

Lord Hear Us. Father Send us your Spirit

In this time of difficulty and real hardship for many, grant that we may all find a way of reaching out to those who need us.

 Lord Hear Us. Father Send us your Spirit

For many there is great anxiety especially as children return to school. Grant that we may provide comfort and encouragement to those who are anxious and afraid at this time.

Lord Hear Us. Father Send us your Spirit

Send your Spirit to those who are sick and especially those in hospitals where loved ones cannot visit. Comfort both those in hospital and those worrying at home. In a moment of silence, we remember especially those in our Newsletter and others known to us.

Lord Hear Us. Father Send us your Spirit

We thank you for all those who are courageously putting themselves at risk to help keep our community running as well as those tending for the sick. Show us how we can help them.

Lord Hear Us. Father Send us your Spirit

Help us to spread hope and love amongst everyone we talk with, write to or meet. In these times of enforced isolation, help us to remember that you are always with each and every one of us.

Lord Hear Us. Father Send us your Spirit

We spend a few moments in silence remembering those we know who have left this world and ask that you send your comfort to all who loved and who knew them.

Lord Hear Us. Father Send us your Spirit

Finally, we remember our family and ourselves. May we all be guided by your Spirit.

And as we Rejoice in the Good News proclaimed by the Apostles

Lord Hear Us. Father Send us your Spirit

Merciful Father, accept these Prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ, Amen

And now let us join together in our Lord’s Prayer. The Prayer that our Lord gave to the Apostles when they asked Him how they should pray.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done in Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into Temptation but deliver us from Evil. For thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory for Ever and Ever. Amen
