A Place of Comfort and Connection
Welcome to the Sanctuary Cafe
St. Margaret’s Church, Tylers Green has launched a “Dementia Cafe” offering support for all those suffering from dementia or, indeed, any kind of memory loss.
We are open every Thursday afternoon between 2.30pm and 4.00pm in The Sanctuary at the Parish Rooms opposite the church.
Dementia doesn’t care who you are; it could affect us all. Because public understanding is generally so poor, people with dementia can often feel – and indeed be – misunderstood, marginalised and isolated. And that means that they’re less likely to be able to live independently in their own communities.
This can be profoundly debilitating not only for the sufferer but also for their carer.
Dementia is a challenging condition, not only for the sufferer but also for their carer with an ever growing need for support. So, our aim is to provide a safe space where both sufferer and carer can receive respite and support in a calm and friendly atmosphere all lubricated by an endless supply of tea, coffee and biscuits.
Jesus taught…
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35)
and,
even more forcibly, the Apostle Paul said…
“Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).
We believe that as a church and as a community generally, we urgently need to create a climate of kindness and understanding, so that everyone affected by dementia can feel part of, not apart from, the society in which they live.
So, we are encouraged as we seek in this way to be the love of Christ in our local community.
Our dedicated group of volunteers recognise the challenges of living with dementia both as a sufferer and as someone living with a dementia sufferer.
If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with dementia, you are not alone. So, please do come along. You will be assured of a very warm welcome.
Our aim is to provide support for all those coping with dementia and its associated conditions. Come along, share your stories, be encouraged and find understanding.
You can be sure of a very warm welcome.
Revd. Graham Summers.
